【管理经典】2017年4月26日星期三。2003年，《哈佛商业评论》开展了一项活动，寻找“大师中的大师”，结果彼得·德鲁克排在第一位，第二位则是詹姆斯·马奇教授，排在第三位的是诺贝尔经济学奖获得者赫伯特·西蒙。马奇教授出生于1916年，现代组织理论的创始人，被公认为是过去50年来，在组织决策研究领域最有贡献的学者之一，在组织、决策和领导力等领域都有巨大的贡献。
我第一次见到马奇教授是在2013年8月，当时是和海尔集团董事局主席张瑞敏先生等一起前往斯坦福大学拜访马奇教授。2014年我到斯坦福大学SCANCOR中心做访问学者，这个中心是马奇教授创办的，主要邀请北欧学者到斯坦福大学访问，是北欧高校连接美国高校的一个学术研究平台，使我有更多的机会接触和学习马奇教授的思想。和许多西方教授的思维模式不同，马奇教授特别具有“东方思维”和“东方智慧”。
比如，关于领导者的决策模式，马奇教授认为企业内部的决策，特别是关于未来战略的决策常常出错的原因在于：人们过度重视所谓的理性选择和结果逻辑。即从最佳结果的角度出发来倒推战略的方向。
这在原来市场变化很慢的的情况下也许是可以成立的，但如果市场变化非常迅速，这种过于严谨的封闭决策模式可能会出现与现实脱节的严重问题。这是典型的西方决策模式，相信数据和逻辑。相对而言，东方决策模式是一种直觉决策，而非逻辑决策。事实也证明，许多领导者的重大决策往往都是在长时间的思考之后，突然顿悟出来的，而非通过数据和分析由逻辑推导出来的。
